After 3 days of work putting all the pieces together, my software (iMovie!) crapped out and added a hiss to every dam spoken syllable, and I just can't bring myself to start all over again. Please forgive the substandard (even for Dicks&Janes) audio quality. But if you can get past that you'll hear fucken Julien, another take (already dated) on Bruce's non-appearance, the Leicaman and others, on a 2 day binge in Montreal and the Laurentians.

    Tomorrow Never Knows
    (Lennon/McCartney)

Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream
It is not dying, it is not dying

Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void
It is shining, it is shining

Yet you may see the meaning of within
It is being, it is being

Love is all and love is everyone
It is knowing, it is knowing

And ignorance and hate mourn the dead
It is believing, it is believing

But listen to the colour of your dreams
It is not leaving, it is not leaving

So play the game "Existence" to the end
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning
Of the beginning, of the beginning

    Dudenkoph!

While reading thru 'What They Didn't Teach You About The 60s' (Mike Wright, Presidio Press, 2001), I was surprised to find the following passage:

"Dude," which had come into fashion in the eighteen hundreds' Wild West, actually came from the German word dudenkoph, which means "lazy fellow" or "lazy head." In the 1960s some hippies believed it wasd impolite to call blacks "spades," so they came to be called "dudes." Today, any cat can be a dude if he works at it hard enough.

My thanks to Bob of the Bob & AJ show for giving me the moniker - it seems to fit, especially the lazy part...

If you've listened to any previous dicksnjanes podcasts, you should know by now whether or not this is your cup of tea, and if it isn't, please don't waste any more of your time. If you're still with me, my advice is to break this last one into bite size pieces, stopping for a break when you've had enuf rather than zapping forward looking for the good parts - cuz you won't find them. Then come back for more if/when you're ready. It does end on a happy note...

    Upwards & Onwards!

Can't believe the progress that's being made! You wouldn't know it, as there are still no published disks&janes podcasts, but hey, I've learned how to cut out nasty bits using Audicity, have blogger ast least partially figured out, stole - I mean borrrowed - podcast info blurbs from Bob&AJ and Kobe Beef, got feedburner all ready to go - and now all that's missing - I think - is a site to host my mp3's! If all goes well, we'll be up before I leave for Japan May 30!

    Dicks&Janes Podcast#3

Holy shit - we're already up to 3!! Vowed this would be the beginning, or the end, of the dicks&janes podcast, so listen and find out. Further thanks to Bob & AJ for not being Adam Curry, the real Bob & AJ (again), character flaws, plug for Uncut magazine. New intro with a Kerouac laugh and some juju music, and a show fueled by plenty of vin rouge. Oh ya, and a shitty birthday too.

The tunes you'll enjoy from the Scarborough Dude's collection:

D'arcy Farrow - Matthews Southern Comfort (Beat Goes On Records, UK)
Universal Hall - The Waterboys (Uncut, Best of 2003)
Consuela Biaz - Boney M (Boonoonoonoos) (background music)
Congratulations - Ebineezer Obey (Nigerian bootleg tape)

Rambling monologue interspersed with more great podcast unsafe music. (Hey, if I go down, the whole dam podcast community goes with me, starting with Adam Curry).

    Dicks&Janes Podcast#1

Dicks&Janes Podcast #1 - four months in the making, and you wouldn't know it! A complete newbie to the podcast scene, my thanks go out to the pioneers, with a special, thanks to Bob & AJ for setting the barrier low enough for more of us to join in. Some rambling thoughts from a graveyard, leading to an overwhelming question - to podcast or not to podcast?

Featured Tunes from the Scarborough Dude's personal (paid in full) collection:

1-2-5 - The Haunted (an early 60s band from Lachine, Quebec)
For the Widows in Paradise, For the Fatherless in Ypsilanti - Sufjan Stevens (Uncut, April 2005)
Please Be My Friend - Matthews Southern Comfort
Cookie Jar - Mark Mulcahy (Uncut, March 2005)
Did Ye Get Healed - Van Morrison (Best of Van Morrison)
Warning Sign - Coldplay (visit www.coldplay.com)

    Simmering

Listening to Adam Curry's DSC yesterday I heard the promo for Kobe Beef, which otherwise I never would have found. It's very good, and I'm impressed with Terrence's show, and his rambling insights. Now wondering if I should still try and go ahead with mine, or make it more of a talk show, or... So ya, no further ahead, but the idea ain't dead - yet. Main problem is I can't afford the time!!! I've got a business to run!

    time standing still - not

Well, 2 podcasts cemented together now, and a good start on dicksnjanes podcast #3. But not much further ahead in figuring how where and how to post these so that someone out there can actually listen to them! May ask Bob of Bob & AJ for some help and guidance...

    now in reverse!

Saturday morning, normally my favourite time of the week, but now simply frustrated. That nasty feeling that comes when you don't have a clue what you're doing - in this case trying to write an rss to go with my mp3 so that others can find and listen to the First Dicks&Janes podcast. Already started on the 2nd, but so far, only one listener- by CD!

    standing still

Not much progress; finished the podcast but haven't decided yet if, how and where I should put it up for grabs. Thinking of a new .Mac account, useful for other things too. Also sent in a piece to Bob & AJ, and hope maybe they'll choose to use it in their show - but no idea, and no control. My note said 'you decide'. I have to assume they got it okay.

Song playing on random - 'Reach for the sky cuz tomorrow may never come.' True eh...

    ...and yet, so close

Weird! Somehow managed to get thru all the crap that threatened to destroy this podcast before I even got started, and sure as shit, was able to put some pieces together last night and this morning, digest it all while walking back to Thompson Park, and - Houston- we have Liftoff!! Well not quite, but a hell of a lot closer than I was yesterday - just have to figure out where and how to put it up, that first Dicks&Janes podcast.

And, almost as a sign, on the walk home I tuned in the latest Bob & AJ Show - and guess what - there I was!! That guy from Scarborough - me!! On the Bob & AJ podcast!! Now how cool is that eh! If that ain't a sign to go forward, then man, I can't imagine what more I'd need to get going. Thanks guys!

    long way to go...

This seems like yet another step backwards in my as yet very tentative attempts to create and post a podcast. Beginning to doubt I'll ever get there, cuz the longer it takes, the more I have to wonder why I want to anyway... It seemed so clear earlier, but with all the time wasted doing the technical stuff, the fun gets lost. Maybe best to keep it simple, and stick with my unrehearsed rants using just iTalk on the iPod eh. Nothing fancy, no need to race after Adam Curry....
